TAMING TODDLERS

How to handle tantrums?
Tantrums are upsetting and embarassing, especially when they are outdoors.

Don't raise your voice. Keep cool. Talk to the child calmly.

Take the child to another room or quiet place. Allow him to express his feelings and emotions.
Create some sort of diversion.Make a funny face, tell a joke or sing.
Hug him to show you care.
Once the child cools down, praise him for getting it right.

Teach good manners
From your instructions and example, children estabilish a basic understanding of how to interact with people.
You should teach the basic people to people skills to
  • acknowledge others
  • make eye contact
  • speak respectfully
  • answer questions politely

Encourage them to say 'please','sorry' and 'thank you'.

Ask your child to share his toys. Respond to quarrels with a strict warning or an end to playtime.

Make your child practice good table manners at home like
  • Not talking with a mouthful of food
  • Holding cutlery properly
  • Using napkins

Tell children not to interrupt while grown ups are having a conversation. Kids have to wait till it is finsihed.
When children have doubts about doing something, get permission first.
Make them cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze.
Give children opportunities to talk and greet others.

Never forget to praise them for doing things the right way.

Children generally follow their parents. So model the behaviour they desire in their child.Once you set rules, stick to it.
